The SFI20119 Certificate II in Aquaculture Practices offered by Envirotech is a foundational program designed to support Indigenous communities, including the Torres Strait Islanders, in developing sustainable aquaculture techniques. This nationally recognized course equips participants with essential skills to engage in regenerative aquaculture, contributing to the preservation of marine biodiversity and the livelihoods of coastal communities.

Program Overview

This 52-week course combines theoretical knowledge and practical training to teach participants the fundamentals of aquaculture, including monitoring, environmental assessments, and sustainable farming practices. It emphasizes culturally relevant methods to ensure that aquaculture practices align with Indigenous traditions and ecological stewardship.

Regenerative Aquaculture Practices

Learn sustainable techniques for clam seeding, oyster farming, and other aquaculture production methods that replenish marine ecosystems.

Environmental Monitoring and Assessments

Conduct fieldwork to evaluate marine habitats and support conservation efforts.

Planning and Project Management

Gain skills to plan and present aquaculture projects tailored to the unique needs of Torres Strait communities.

Hands-On Experience

Through the Vocational Industry Placement (VIP), students collaborate with leading industry partners and local communities, including Traditional Owners in the Torres Strait. Practical projects such as oyster reef regeneration, seagrass and mangrove surveys, coral conservation, and dune restoration provide real-world experience while fostering respect for cultural protocols and Indigenous stewardship.
